In Week 1, we introduced Aruba Central and outlined the full journey from zero to a production-ready wireless network. This week, we'll take the first hands-on step: creating your HPE GreenLake account and deploying the Aruba Central application so you have a place to onboard and manage your devices.

Why HPE GreenLake?

Aruba Central now lives inside the broader HPE GreenLake ecosystem. Instead of being a standalone portal, Central is one of several cloud applications you can deploy and manage under a single HPE identity.

You can think of HPE GreenLake as the front door to Aruba Central:

  • It provides a unified view of your device inventory across Aruba solutions.
  • It centralizes licensing and subscription management.
  • It handles application deployment and access for services like Aruba Central.

Before you can log in to Aruba Central, you first need an HPE GreenLake account and workspace. Once that is in place, you simply deploy Aruba Central as a service into that workspace.

Step 1: Create Your HPE GreenLake Account

Start by registering for HPE GreenLake:

On the registration form, provide the following:

  • Email address: This becomes your username for HPE GreenLake and Aruba Central.
  • Password: Follow the on-screen password complexity requirements.
  • Personal information: Name, company, and address details.
  • Country: Select your primary country or region; this will influence which regional cluster your services use.
  • Review and accept the HPE Terms of Use.

After submitting the form:

  • Check your inbox for an activation email from HPE GreenLake.
  • Click the Activate Account link in the email to complete your registration.

Understanding Deployment Regions

HPE GreenLake and Aruba Central are hosted in regional clusters (sometimes called zones). Common regions include:

  • US-West
  • US-East
  • Europe
  • APAC

Your country selection during registration and workspace creation helps map your account to the appropriate region. This matters for two main reasons:

  • Data residency: Some organizations must keep data within specific geographic boundaries.
  • Latency: Hosting your services in a region close to your users generally improves responsiveness.

While you can often see or confirm the region during deployment, changing regions later can be disruptive. It's best to choose the correct region up front based on your compliance and performance requirements.

Step 2: Create Your Company Workspace

Once your email is activated and you sign in, you'll land on the HPE GreenLake homepage.

  • Click Create Workspace.
  • Fill in the workspace details:
  • Workspace Name: Typically your company name or a clear tenant identifier.
  • Workspace Country: Your primary business location.
  • Address: Street, city, state/province, and postal code.
  • Contact information: Phone number and email.

When you are done, click Create Workspace. This workspace will contain your Aruba Central deployment, device inventory, and licenses.

Pro tip: You can create multiple workspaces to separate different customers, environments (lab vs. production), or business units, depending on your organizational model.

Step 3: Deploy Aruba Central to Your Workspace

With your workspace created, you can now deploy Aruba Central as a service.

  • From the workspace homepage, click Services in the top menu.
  • Select Catalog.
  • In the Networking section, locate Aruba Central.
  • Click Provision to begin deployment.

In the deployment configuration:

  • Deployment Region: Confirm or adjust the region (this should generally match your workspace country and user base).
  • Review and check I agree to the Terms of Service.
  • Click Deploy.

Deployment usually takes around 1–2 minutes. Once it finishes:

  • Click My Services in the left menu.
  • You should see an Aruba Central tile associated with your workspace.
  • Click Launch to open the Aruba Central interface in a new browser tab.

Navigating the Aruba Central Interface

Before we start adding devices, take a quick tour of the Aruba Central UI:

  • Global navigation: The left sidebar lets you access Groups, Sites, Devices, Clients, and other major areas.
  • Context filter: The top-left dropdown controls which group or site you are viewing and configuring.
  • Dashboard: Provides at-a-glance visibility into health, alerts, and device status across your environment.
  • Search bar: Use this to quickly find devices, clients, or configuration items.

Getting familiar with this layout now will make the later configuration and troubleshooting steps much easier.

Common Issues and Troubleshooting

If something doesn't work as expected, start with these checks:

  • Email not received: Check your spam or junk folder. If necessary, use the Resend activation link option on the login page.
  • Region mismatch: If you realize you selected the wrong region, contact HPE support before onboarding devices or applying licenses to avoid migration headaches later.
  • Workspace not showing Aruba Central: Confirm that the deployment completed successfully by checking My Services. If Central does not appear, try refreshing the page or verifying that you deployed it into the correct workspace.

What We Accomplished

By the end of this post, you should have:

  • Created and verified your HPE GreenLake account
  • Set up a company workspace to contain your Aruba services
  • Deployed Aruba Central into that workspace
  • Successfully launched the Aruba Central interface and taken a quick tour

With this foundation in place, you are ready to start onboarding hardware and applying licenses.

Up Next: Onboarding Devices and Applying Licenses

In Week 3, we'll add your access points and (optionally) gateways to the GreenLake inventory, apply subscription licenses, and assign devices to Aruba Central. Have your device serial numbers and subscription keys ready so you can follow along step by step.
